Maurice Leyden was a Rochester, N.Y. dentist, businessman, banker, and politician. He held office as the Monroe County Clerk, and was an active member of the Monroe County Republican Party. He was also the treasurer of the 3rd New York Regiment of Cavalry. Of the 52 diaries, 25 belonged to Maurice Leyden, 22 of them belonged to Sarah Woodruff Pottle, and 4 belonged to Blanche Leyden.
